We organized ¡Resisting the news! Video-activism Workshop between 5-8 March 2014 at Goethe Institut Ankara, Turkey in collaboration with Berlin based Moviemiento e.V.
Focused on civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance in general, the workshop brought young video artists and acvitists from Egypt, Germany and Turkey together in Ankara. During the workshop, the participants created videos about civil disobedience using multiple sources such as YouTube clips, news reports, mobile footage, archival footage etc. The footage, stills and sounds were creatively edited, manipulated and combined into a new mix that gives a new message, meaning or story.
The workshop was conducted by the Turkish video activist Özlem Sarıyıldız. The participants of the workshop were Heba Amin, Ahmed el Shaer from Egypt; Juliane Henrich, Aslı Özarslan from Germany; Bilge Demirtaş and Tennur Baş from Turkey.
At the end of the workshop, the videos created by the participants were screened at the Goethe Institut Ankara on the 08.03.2014. A Q&A session was held after the screening between the participants and the audience.
The videos were also screened in Berlin. Held within the framework of Berlistanbul, one of the important alternative culture and music festivals in Berlin, the screening took place at Klunkerkranich on September 6, 2014. The video artists Juliane Henrich and Aslı Özarslan answered the questions of the audience after the screening.
